Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal
Although laser hair removal is one of the most efficient, effective and safe ways of hair removal available in the market today, yet there are some obvious side effects associated with hair removal using lasers. Fortunately enough, not many of these side effects are of a serious nature; therefore, after a few days of scars and bruises, you will be able to recover from most of these side effects.
One of the most common and obvious side effects of hair removal using laser is that you might encounter rashes and red-ness in skin. Inflammation and sore skin might persist for a few days after you have got your hair removed using laser technique. Normally, your clinic and the supervisor who treats you would let you know about such eventualities in advance. The extent of swelling of the skin depends upon your skin tone and pigmentation (skin color and the ‘melanin’ levels in the skin).
Another common side effect of such a treatment is bruising, although it is not as common as sore skin. Bruising is generally not very severe and most people will not even feel that there skin is bruised. Bruising occurs if you have tanned areas in the body. Usually, practitioners would caution you against possible bruising if you have tan areas, as a precaution though, try not to get treated by lasers while you still have some tan areas in the skin.
Wait for the tanning to recede and proceed with your sessions consequently. The reason why tanning leads to bruising is that tanning results in darkening of the skin. This means that the color contrast between the hair follicles and the skin tone reduces. This situation can, at times, lead to the malfunctioning of the laser technology.
Having an intrinsically dark skin will not be a good thing if you want to opt for laser hair removal. The reason for this is that that the laser demarcates hair follicles from the skin using the color difference between the two. If the colors of your skin and hair resemble, chances are that the laser might get confused and burn your skin in place of hair, which will lead to bruising.
Therefore, the side effects of undergoing a laser hair removal treatment are quite existent, though they are not too severe. There might be cases when undergoing such a treatment might not be the best option, depending upon your skin tone, but usually, under such conditions, the doctors and the practitioners would let you know about the possible dangers. As a thumb rule, always remember that the lower the contrast of your skin color and the color of the hair follicles, more are the possibilities of side effects in the future.
